Tactical Rope Operator

Course Information

Duration: 5 Days [40 hours]
Pre-Requisites: T’NT TRB and/or students should be proficient with basic knots, proper donning/doffing of a harness,
proficient with loading/unloading of descent control devices, basic rappel, and self-check/buddy check
Certification: A certificate will be issued to each student upon successful completion of the program
Evaluation: Each student will be evaluated and will be required to pass a practical skills test

Course Description

The TRO course is designed for tactical team members with limited tactical rope experience, and it focuses on building core skills and competencies. Intermediate members on experienced teams will progressively learn rigging principles and establish good habits and best practices. Members will be proficient in building anchors, constructing systems, and rappelling alongside team members. Upon successful completion of this course, TRO members will be capable of successfully building rope systems and deploying their team in a high angle environment.

  • Mechanical Advantage Systems [Simple. T-Method] 
  • Raises and Lowers [SRT, Two Tensioned Rope Systems, Use of back-up system] 
  • Rescue and Recovery [Pickoffs, Team Members, Self-Rescue, Civilians, EDPs, Protestors]
  • Rescue Theory [Standards and Regulations, Principles, Forces and Physics, Safety Factors]
  • Safety [“AHRE” Anchor, Harness, Rappel Device, Edge]
  • Team Management [Roles and Responsibilities, Communications]
  • Team Movement on Rope [Window Entries, Balconies, Missed exits]

BY THE END OF THIS TRAINING, PARTICIPANTS SHOULD BE ABLE TO:

  • Construct and operate a Tensioned Rope System
  • Construct a simple MA System and understand T-Method
  • Conduct an HRT rappel on Dynamic Rope
  • Pass a knot on rappel
  • Conduct a dynamic edge transition
  • Construct a skate block and sloping high line
  • Construct rescue systems for civilians and EDP’s

Prerequisites

T’NT TRB, or approved equivalent
